It's a rough one, but rewarding. The 納経所 closes at 4:30! Be careful. Also the taxi to my hotel was ~4,000円 but well worth it because walking to the hotel from the temple was not going to happen.

Great downhill section here. Little mountain village that kinda reminded me of northern Italy... along with tons of other villages in Japan I've walked through like this.

Very cute payphone that I used to get a taxi as my phone data was not getting a strong signal. I chose a hotel that was another 10.5km away because it had a hot spring and was hoping I could do this walk. That was not going to happen after how tough this hike was... so I called a taxi.

That was hard, but it was what I needed to do. I'm happy I did it. The Kamiyama Hot Spring Hotel (神山温泉ホテル四季の里＆いやしの湯) was outstanding and staying there was a great option. Just assume you'll need to get a taxi and factor that cost into your budget. There's a FamilyMart between the temple and the hotel where you can get stuff for dinner.
