国分峠東バス停 has busses going both ways to 光明池駅 or 河内長野駅.

This sign warns people who are trying to drive up to the temple from here. That is NOT POSSIBLE. There is no way to drive up to this temple. Using scheduled public transportation this route is the closest you can get. If you drive up, you can park at the base of the mountain on the other side.

Heading down the main route up was fun. It is a slower climb but longer than going up the back way.

Note that the 納経所 closes early in Winter. There's also a new 入山料 (mountain access fee) of \500 per person that started a few years ago. Even if you come up from the back, you need to pay as you leave.

The old scheduled bus service up to the base of the main route up to the temple used to go from here. I guess there's an on demand bus now, but I haven't figured out to use it.

国分峠東バス停 is the closest bus stop to the temple entrance it seems. The route here goes from 光明池駅 ↔ 河内長野駅 so either side is OK. There also seems to be a lot of busses so you won't have to wait long.

This was a great route and I feel it is less difficult as the major climb is all at the beginning. Lots of space on the roads or very little traffic along the entire route. Not a lot of traffic noise either for most of it.

Doing the whole hike from 粉河寺 then going down to 国分峠東バス停 is a possibility but it would add another ~5km and ~1hr to the hike.
