Outwards: Seibu line from Ikebukuro to Hannou, changing onto the single track line to Chichibu but getting off at the third stop, Musashi-yokote.

Return: Koma-eki, retracing the route back to Tokyo

Note that because of the 'higanbana festival' additional trains were stopping at Koma-station so instead of the normal one or two trains per hour from that station there seemed to be about three.

Very good - a mixture of road and trail, all very well maintained with no difficult points.

The last few days of September and first few days of October saw the holding of a festival to view the 'higanbana' (spider lillies) while at their best at Kinchakuda - see the pictures.

Trichonoephila Clavata - the 'Joro spider', seen quite frequently on hikes in Japan and given the size probably a female. According to legend the female spider can change her appearance into that of a beautiful woman that seeks men to seduce, who she binds in silk and then devours. The presence of my wife presumably prevented this unappealing fate.

An easy and quite pleasant route with good views from the top of Hiwada-yama over kinchakuda, a good spot to have dinner. This trip had the bonus of the spider lily festival at the end as shown in the photos.
