The bus originates in Hachioji and passes through Takao, so one approach would be to try and get on board the bus at a stop before Takaosanguchi Station. The walk ends at Takaosanguchi Station on the Keio line with regular (two or three an hour) express trains to Shinjuku. コース状況/ 危険箇所等 |
The course was well maintained and easy to follow, but in contrast to my most recent walk past from Kagenobu Mountain to Shiroyama, some of the paths are much narrower. |

感想
This walk is south of Route 20, the main road leading across the Takao area to Lake Sagami. Compared with the Takao range north of route 20 there is only a small section of mountain to walk through and relatively few paths, however this route follows a ridge that allows a very scenic view over the Lake Sagami area, although for most of the route the view was obscured by trees at this time of year. It would be well worth coming back in the winter to enjoy the views.
The start of the route is a little difficult to access, requiring either a bus (only one in the morning and so overcrowded that, the day we went, not everyone was able to get on) or a taxi, which from Takaosanguchi Station would probably be about JPY2,000-3,000. An alternative could be to take the cable car up to Mount Takao and then walk to the start of the walk on the north side of Route 20, but this would be quite a but longer than the route shown here.
However the walk itself was very pleasant and much less busy than the area around Mount Takao itself. Much of the first half to two thirds of the walk was throughbroadleafed areas (see the photos) and very little through the dark, pine tree forested areas you often find on the lower slopes of Japanese mountains.
The latter third or so of the walk, in particular after turning to the north, was much tougher though with a great deal of up and down, so make sure to save some energy to the end and try not to get dispirited as once again you find yet another climb looming in front of you.
