利用交通機関：

Although a relatively long course it starts from Nishi Agano station and ends at Agano Station, so no time is wasted waiting for buses etc. However the line from Chichibu to Hanno is single track and the trains relatively infrequent - two an hour or in some hours only one per hour.

コース状況／危険箇所等

The course was in good condition throughout and often crosses roads passable by car giving options for descent if needed. The start of the descent from Kaoburi Pass is a little steeper, rockier and covered in fallen leaves than the other sections so take care, but at the same time, this was the nicest path on the route.

This seems very like Kalmia Latifolia or 'Mountain Laurel', and if this is what it is it is not a native Japanese species. It is also poisonous, as is honey produced from the plant giving rise to 'mad honey intoxication'

The bad point about walking in this area of Oku Musashi/Chichibu is that a large part of the walk is normally through the managed pine forests rather than broadleaf trees. Good points are the chance to see some charming 'sato yama' (Japanese mountain village) scenery, some nice views from the summits and a choice of many paths including roads and 'rindou' (rougher forest roads).

This walk was no exception in that much of the beginning excluding the summit was through managed pine forest, although this tended to be less densely planted and lighter than most and was a pleasant enough route. At its highest point the walk was very pleasant through a little section of broadleaf to a very charming summit with plenty of room for lunch and enjoying the view. The path down from Kaoburi Touge also had good views across the 'sato yama', hopefully captured in the photos.
