ShinHotaka car park to Summit = 4 hours 45 minutes

From Shinhotaka carpark, the first hour is a good gravel rindo. Thereafter, the path becomes rocky, crossing several riverbeds, but even in the dark it was not difficult to follow the route. Most of the route is too bouldery to run, except for the zigzags up to Yari-sanso. For the final 100 meters of chains and ladders to the summit, it's strongly recommended to put the dog in a rucksack to free up your hands. Also best to go at night if you wish to avoid the opprobrium that will be heaped on you and your hound by the crowds during daylight hours.
