Tried a new short cut to Karato 2.30 p.m. to 4.50 p.m., and landed up near Arima. Very rought country, all three got into the stream. Called the palce "The Kyber Pass." Home via Karato and Futatabi. Kobe 7.45 p.m.

Met at corner Daunt's road, Riki to Okuhirano, picked up Daunt's Riki man and Paddy and Kobe. Walked to Arima road via Inscription Valley. / Walked down road to K.W.Society's "Goblin Ridge" path. / We pointed out the path over the "The Kobe Alps" and invited him to have a go at it. Futatabi. Home via Hunter's Gap and Suwayama.

Meet of "goats" at Trikidori 8.30 a.m. / Tram to Ogi, thence up through Okamoto towards Count Otani's redidence. Stiff climb up right hand side of hill past the College. Kept too much to the left and came out in a valley evidentiy to west of ponds. Proceeded in easterly direction. The "Haikara Goat" not to be out-done by the performances of other goats this season took a "christening" in a stream. / Got on right track, and struck two ponds of beautiful blue colour. Came back on our tracks, and made Belle Vue road. Went down the road and across stream and struck Quarry Road; came out by Price's House. While climbing through quarry / Reached Daunt's Rock at 1.10 p.m. / Left Rock 3.30 p.m. and proceeded via "Green Man" to Futatabi, arrived 5.40 p.m. / Home via Hunter's Gap and "The Ching Bung Mess."

Meet at Trikidori. / Hanshin to Ashiya. Up road alongside river bed until we reached a large iron pipe coming out of the hills, / Yeboshi Iwa, "Cap Rock." close to right of the path. Up the valley. Crossed stream several times, / Came out at top of valley into an open space, and after a little casting round spotted the "Isolated Hut" given in "our instructions," from which one can see the Nakabatake-ike Fine view. / Turned up to the left into hills, and followed west ridge right on to top of Belle Vue Shrine. A "Dak" was laid at Belle Vue Hotel, / Arrived Daunt's Rock at 1.50 p.m. / made for Futatabi via 20 Crossings. / Home via road and Cremation Valley.

Meet Hanshin Sannomiya Station: / Got out at Oishi and went up middle ridge of the Doctor's Nob. / Heavy snow from top of Nob to Rokko / back home via Short Cut, walked right in.

Passed by Hermit's Curve, and inspected same. Down Agony Hill to Rokkosan. Home via Shrine road, Arima road and Futatabi.

Trikidori(とりき通り) - Nunobiki lower road(布引の下の道) - Reservoir(貯水池) - Tengu-michi(天狗道の延長) - Takao Yama(高尾山の頂上) - Daunt's Ridge(ドーント・リッジ) - 20 Crossings(トエンテイクロス) - Boulevard de Faisan(キジの大通り) - 20 Crossings(トエンテイクロス) - Futatabi(再度) - Cremation Valley(火葬谷)
Trikidori at 2.15 p.m. / Nunobiki lower road round Reservoir crossed stream as if going to Futatabi, turned sharp right, went over continuation Tengu-michi, a grand climb of about 1,800 feet to the top of Takao Yama. Followed Daunt's Ridge, struck a very old path and followed it coming out after a good deal of scrambling down bed of stream to 20 Crossings. "Smut" flushed a copper cock pheasant, and the path was christened the "Boulevard de Faisan" Down 20 Crossings to where we turned for the Tengu-michi, and thus looped the loop. Up to Futatabi. Home via road and Cremation Valley.

West corner of the Green Man(青山の南西の隅) - St. Valentine's Ridge(セントバレンタイン尾根) - Mayasan(摩耶山) - Agony Column(アゴニー) - Russian Drive(ロシア道) - Daunt's Rock(ドーントの別荘) - Russian Drive(ロシア道) - Doctor's Nob(ドクターズ・ノブ) - a new spur(支脈) - Cascade Valley(杣谷) - Gomo(五毛)
Start from Sambon Matsu 9.07 a.m., Nunobiki, Top Road, past Reservoir, 20 Crossings to foot of S. West corner of the "Green Man." Turned sharp to right up a long spur from Northern Ridge. This Spur was christened "St. Valentine's Ridge," and was a decent path most of the way to the centre of the Main Ridge. Came out at back of Mayasan with a few scratches. Down Agony Column to Daunt's Rock via Russian Drive. Home via Russian Drive and Doctor's Nob. / From the Nob a new spur was followed down to the Cascade Valley bringing us out to the right of some very large rocks about half way up to the Half-way Stone. Home via Gomo.

Met Trikidori 2.15 p.m. Walked to pond at West side of Gomo, and then took middle ridge right up to "Moon Temple." / Upsteps through temple grounds, right over top of Mayasan and down K.W.Society's new road to 20 Crossings and "Melrose Abbey:" up Tengu-michi and right over top of Futatabi. Home via Mill road and Cremation Valley.

Trikidori 8.30 a.m. / Tram to Ashiya, / Up Ashiya gorge, took turning to left instead of going by pond, came out South East of Belle Vue, hard scramble over three ridges finally came out on Sumiyoshi Belle Vue Road. Daunt's Rock for tiffin, / came Home via Short Cut. / called at Kasugano tea house.

8.30 a.m. Trikidori. By Hanshin to Ogi, went through Okamoto thence via valley to a small clump of pine trees surrounding Shrine, good path right to top of hill. Turned sharp right and over ridges to Blue Lake. / From Blue Lake to Sumiyoshi--Belle Vue road, took path leading to Price's house on Rokko. Tiffin at Daunt's Rock. Home via Agony Hill, Mayasan, Northern Ridges to Twenty Crossings and up to Futatabi, home by road.

Hunter's Gap(ハンターズ・ギャップ) - 2 Pines(2本松) - Futatabisan(再度) - Aden(アデン) - black stone(黒い岩) - Groom's house(グルームの家) - the Doctor's Nob(ドクターズノブ) - the large stone(大きい岩) - Mayasan(摩耶山) - the half-way house(中間点に位置する旅館) - Uramichi(裏道) - Kumochi(熊内)
Met at Hunter's Gap 9.30 a.m. / proceeded to Futatabisan via Gap and 2 Pines. Passed Aden / Turned off by the black stone for the "Green Man." / Another "flip" behind Groom's house took the pack up to the Rock all going strong. After a light lunch a start was made for the Doctor's Nob. From the Nob a descent was made to the Cascade Valley, the last few fundred yards being very interresting. From the large stone below Ailion's Ruh a sharp turn to the right up to Mayasan was taken. Leaving the steps on the right a descent was made to the half-way house where Kirin Beer and hard-boiled egges were called for. Home via the Uramichi and Kumochi.

2.15 p.m. from Daunt's Corner--Cremation Valley and Mill Road to Futatabi. Round back of Futatabi for "Twenty Crossings" / through Green Valley, then new path to Mayasan. / Proceeded down the Southern Ridge, took first valley to South, came out at lower tea house, thence by old Maya path to Fern Valley and home.

Kumochi(熊内) - Gomo(五毛) - Cascade Valley(滝谷) - middle ridge(中央尾根) - Nob(ドクターズノブ) - Daunt's Rock(ドーントの別荘) - 7th Hole(7番ホール) - Karato(唐櫃) - the Kyber Pass road(カイバー峠) - Arima road(有馬道) - Yamada(山田) - Futatabi(再度) - Mill Road(水車道) - Cremation Valley(火葬谷)
By tram to Kumochi. Walked to Gomo, / picked up E.U.Reid who did Doctor's Nob from Ailion's Ruh with Koops. / We went further up Cascade Valley, and took middle ridge. After a stiff climb over rocks, etc. got to Nob after the other party had passed. Thence to Daunt's Rock. Tiffin. / Waited till 3.30 p.m., took the turning by 7th Hole for Karato. Passed the Kyber Pass road near the end of valley, thence via Arima road to Yamada and Futatabi. Home down Mill Road and Cremation Valley, home 8.30 p.m.

Trikidori(とりき通り) - Kumochi(熊内) - Gomo(五毛) - Cascade Valley(杣谷) - Melhuish Arms(メルフィッシュ紋章) - a big waterfall(滝) - Warren's Ridge(ワーレン・リッジ) - Moon Temple(月の寺) - Southern Ridges(南側の尾根) - Ichigahara(市ケ原) - Futatabi(再度) - Mill Road(水車道) - Cremation Valley(火葬谷)
Meet Trikidori 2 p.m. Daunt arrived, no sign of Galdwell, so went to pull him out of his house. Tram Kumochi. / Gomo--half-way up Cascade Valley, and just above "Melhuish Arms" turned up into hills on left where there is a big waterfall. Went straight over the ridge. Splended climb, mostly all rocks. Came out North side of "Moon Temple." Decided to call the ridge:--"Warren's Ridge." Down Southern Ridges. Had a look at Dead Man's Gulch, and thence downs to Ichigahara, up to Futatabi. / Down Mill Road and Cremation Valley, home 7.30 p.m.

Rokkosan 1.20 p.m. Tiffin at Daunt's Rock. / Left 4 p.m., home via Twenty Crossings and Futatabi. / Home by Mill Road, Cremation Valley 7.00 p.m.

Trikidori 2.30 p.m. / Tram to Kumochi. Through Gomo to Ice Road and up Ice Road to the valley on left hand side below Hansell's house, got on to Ridge between Doctor's Nob and Rokko and after a good climbing scramble where the rope had to be used in to be used in [sic] two places, came out on to the path coming down from Doctor's Nob. / C.L.S. Left us, and went home via Cascade Valley. / Dinner at Daunt's Rock. / This ridge was christened "The Goats Ridge."

Belle Vue(ベルビュー) - Takaradzuka(宝塚) - tea-house(茶屋) - Nishinomiya station(西宮) - Sannomiya(三宮)
Went via Belle Vue and Ridges to Takaradzuka. / Finally got to Takaradzuka about 12.45 p.m. Tiffin sent out and served in a very nice tea-house overlooking river. Start 3.30 p.m. as crow flies over Bismarck Hill (Kabuto-Yama) to Nishinomiya station. Caught 6.12 p.m. train back to Sannomiya.

Left Daunt's Rock Kobe 9 a.m. Nunobiki, Top Road past Reservoir, Twenty Crossings. A few yards up K.W.S.'s new path to Mayasan took track to left which brought us out on Rokkosan path again. Climed 1st hill on left and came back again to Twenty Crossings Road. Tiffin at Daunt's Rock. Home via Short Cut and Kasugano.

Ogi--Okamoto and valley up past Shrine and pine trees, came out Blue Lake. Into valley below then went right up over a Green Hill into Arima-Sumiyoshi Road. Crossed road and turned up a valley, coming out between Belle Vue and Ramseger's house. Tiffin at Daunt's Rock. Home via Green Hill and Futatabi.
