Picked up Davies--Okamoto--out to find grey stone torii as seen from below--passed red and black wooden torii--struck the right hill and passed stone torii in front of small temple--Hokura Jinsha--a beautiful spot full of huge rocks and old trees--climbed hill at back--the Blue Lake frozen over--Sumiyoshi--Bellevue Road--Price's Quarry Road--Rock at 1.30 p.m. Temp. 36°F. Lots of snow on hills. Walked right home via Short Cut and Kumochi.

Lots of snow and stream frozen in places. Rock at 2.10 p.m. Temp. 49°F. Home via Short Cut and Ishiyagawa.

8.30 a.m. Nunobiki--20 Crossings--Otters' Pond--Green Man Path. Dropped down a steep valley to right of Aeroplane Ridge into Goats' Crossings--Passed over lower end of Ridge of the Thousand Pines--after some search found path for Radium Hut. The Birthday Ridge--Left hand spur near Hut--Ten minutes after heavy rain and wind sent in, and continued incessantly for several hours. Fairly good path but overgrown with jungle all along the top of the ridge. Came out on the Shrine Read about 800 yards behind the Shiki Tea House. Got to the Rock at 2.10 p.m. like drowned rats. "O sic a day o' wind an' rain." Temp. 42°F. Home via Short Cut and Kumochi. Walked right in.

8.27 a.m. train to Ashiya. Kurakuon (Koroen)--Sphinx Rock--Nuzi Ridge--Elephant Rock--Nu-zi-yama. A new scalp. Counted thirty ponds in close proximity to the Radium Village--came out south of Pie Hut. A very fine climb. Reached Rock at 1.53 p.m. via the Hajimete Divide, Bellevue and Golf Course. Temp. 42 F. Snow over two feet in depth in some places. Home via Ishiyagawa and tram.

Made for main ridge of the Ridge of the Thousand Pines--the Jimmu Tenno Gambit--Got to the Rock at 2.15 p.m. nearly six hours. Temp. 49°F. Walked right in via Short Cut and Kumochi. Weather showery and cloudy but a good long day and a new scalp.
