Sanbonmatsu 9 a.m. Clear morning after rain. Warren, Nuzum, Mitchell, Ackland and Daunt--also K. and N. Nakagami. Nunobiki--Reservoir (Daunt dropped into the Engineer's office and left a bottle of Haig's Whiskey as a Seibo for the Singing Frogs. Paddy Ackland acting as interpreter told them it was a strong chemical compound to be used for purifying the water in the reservoir). The St. Valentine's Ridge Gambit--Got on to the left hand ridge--half way up saw a green pigeon sitting on the branch of a pine tree--evidently a wounded bird--so we called that ridge:--"The Green Pigeon Ridge"--Mayasan--slush and snow--Agony Column Rock at 1.20 p.m. Temp. 42°F. Edwards and Davies came up to tiffin by the Ice Road. / Home via Isinglass Road and Kyuko Tram. Warren and Ackland walked right in via Short Cut, etc., with "Whiskerando Jem."

Saw Daisen glistening with snow. Put up 3 copper cock's and 2 hens. Met Mullins and Landon below Chambers just up via Shrine Road and Karato. Seton Winton came up to tiffin via Ice Road. / Rock at 2.10 p.m. Temp. 48°F. Home via Isinglass Valley and Kyuko Tram. Weather very fine indeed. A good wind up to the Goats' Carnival.

Nunobiki--Fern Valley--Mayasan Uramichi Halfway Tea House--The Pine Marten Ridge--a fine steep climb of 45 minutes to the Goblin Ridge--A little snow falling--Cherry Dale--Lots of snow on Northern faces. Bento at Xings on Tokugawa Road--Flushed a copper cock--Rokko at 1 p.m. Temp. 37°F. Landon came up to tiffin--Rain--walked right in via Short Cut and Gomo. Rotten weather, but a most successful Goat walk. N.B.--We called that Ridge the Pine Marten Ridge, because Warren some ten years ago was out pheasant shooting and saw one. Couldn't get a shot on account of the dog being in the line of fire.

Home via Short Cut to Kyuko. One of the finest Goat walks ever. Lots of snow--practically on snow from Futatabi all to the way round--say 5 1/2 hours.

Cold and wet--incessant rain all the morning--Warren and Smith went round by Karato and Shrine Road--Nuzum and Daunt piked up the 20 Xings-- / Rokko top road in a fearful state. Rokko at 12.10 p.m. Warren and Smith reached the Rock only a few minutes behind the pikers. They must have gone great guns. Temp. 44°F. Rain cleared off a little in the afternoon. Back via Short Cut and Gomo--Walked right in. A very rotten day.

Spence and A.E. Cooper on Warren's Ridge--Agony Column--Rokkosan Rock at 1.30 p.m. Temp. 37°F. Very cold and raw. Home via Short Cut and Kumochi--walked right in. Rain started again at about 6 p.m. S.P. Smith came up via Cascade Valley, Davies, Edwards, Shirras and Morison came up to tiffin via Short Cut and went on to Arima via Arima Short Cut--lost themselves and turned up at Sugimoto's at 9.30 p.m.

Near the top descended by a new path to the foot of the Pine Marten Ridge--The Easter Monday Ridge of the Pine Marten Ridge--a fine climb. Rock at 1.30 p.m. Temp. 44°F.--D'Orsey, Dacres Smith and Landon came up to tiffin from Arima-- / Home via Short Cut and Gomo. Walked right in. Quite a good day.

Regular typhoon blowing--strong wind blowing from various directions. Smith came up via Short Cut. Got in like drowned rats. / Home via Short Cut and Gomo. A rotten day--but better than stopping indoors. Flushed a copper cock by Monarch of the Glen and met 50 drunken carpenters on Shrine Road returning from a feast of sake on Rokko.

A very fierce, hard and exciting climb. Rope and ice-axe freely used. Weather magnificent. Came out on Birthday Ridge--Back to Rock at 1 p.m. Temp. 49°F. Home in the evening via Green Man and Futatabi. A fine day and one of the best goating days on record.
