Unofficial opening of the Goat Season. Daunt, and Warren, Sanbonmatsu 8.45 a.m. Nunobiki 20 Crossings. Daunt had a bad spill at one of the Crossings owing to a stone turning over. Severely strained muscles and tendons at back of both knees. Ridge of Friendly Fox, Summit 11 a.m. Mayasan--Agony Column--Rock 2.10 p.m. Temp. 53°F. Home Short Cut, and walked right in, a beautiful day, good visibility.

Warren's Dale Ridge to top of Green Man, a steep climb very overgrown, flushed another copper cock and Hen. Wonderful snow views-deep snow on Green Man Rock 1.45 p.m. Temp. 31°F. Home Short Cut and Kasugano. Called on Paddy, Kobe, & Murphy.

Called Golf Club Chambers--Carlson, Cullinan and P.L. Spence had been skiing. Golf course covered with snow. Met Black and Woolger. Rock 2.10 p.m., Temp. 38°F.--wonderful views of Yamato Alps. Sleet and rain in afternoon. Walked right in with D'Orsey and dogs-a regular mudlark.

Agony Column frozen stiff and very slippery. At turning off Goats' Ridge met 33 members of Japan Walking Club who had just done Goats' Ridge under leadership of B. Nagano, the Sumiyoshi Goat. Rokko covered with ice & snow. Rock 1.55 p.m. Temp. 31°F. Bird, Nuzum, and Smith to tiffin. Snowed hard during and afternoon, Short Cut & Tram--Warren and Nuzum walked right in with the "Noble Whiskers," fine day--very cold.

Saw a squirrel and a horned owl. Beautiful views everywhere--Rock 1 p.m. 42°F. Smith came up tiffin via Gomo & Cascade Valley. / Home Short Cut & walked right in.
